First impressions

We loved the colour! That may sound a bit basic, however, a number of sex toys we have used over the years have had quite deep vivid colours that start to fade in odd areas and lose that look of being clean. It’s perception more than anything but if you are putting things close to, or into you, it’s got to feel right!  

The body of the Mermaid has a nice feel to it that tells you it can be cleaned easily and that it won’t fall apart after a couple of uses. One thing that made us smile was the ‘tail’ that is designed for anal use. It sort of flops about like a small fish with no rigidity, however, that made it easier to insert especially with the head being slightly larger. 

Instructions

The instructions are pretty simple if you are familiar with sex toys. They are located in an easy to find place along the outside edge. You would need to remember what- does-what before using because once the toy is in place it is unlikely you will be able to see the controls without the use of a mirror!  Being a remote controlled toy there needs to be a pairing of the two devices, and any one familiar with a mobile phone and bluetooth can easily work it out. The remote buttons are simple to use and navigate. One suggestion is to work through the modes before putting the toy into your desired position as the motor does have some strong pulses!

If you go to the Bestvibe website you will find more written instructions, however, the graphics on the site are a mix of high and low specifications which somewhat takes away the aim of being seamless.

Does it Rock ‘n’ Roll?

This is a fun toy for both single and couples use. Like all toys, it is personal preference as to which part of the genital areas you prefer to be stimulated.  The little Mermaid has the potential to meet one or of all the user’s needs.  The power can be distributed, using the remote, to different parts of the toy and therefore targeting the area of your choice. It seemed to work better when placed in the desired position and underwear worn to keep everything in close contact with the skin. Can it produce orgasms? I’m sure that’s very achievable with the power being directed to the right areas, and although every person’s genitals is different in small ways, this toy shoud be able find the spot.

For total transparency we tried the Mermaid in various modes and although the toy has power, my willing model, missy, does not achieve orgasm from internal stimulation and therefore little was gain from using main motor. The clitoral stimulator, whilst giving off vibrations felt nice, was not enough to bring on an orgasm. However, most toys we own that do work are built with strong power in mind and are mains electric powered, so a like for like comparison would be an unbalanced example.

INTENDED USE

This toy is designed for vulva owners, although with some imagination anyone with an anus could get some pleasure from it!

Cleaning is very simple by using warm water and a mild detergent.

COMPATIBLE LUBES

Only water based lubes should be used with this device due to the internal materials which will probably break down very quickly if silicone based lubes are used

Main Features

The Good

The styling is nice and has a robust feel about it.  Charging is generally fast and the power lasts a long time. I turned on the device with all functions and it ran for an hour consistently before any signs for power loss were heard. The specifications say it will run for 2 hours, however, I do not know if everything was turned on at the time.

The controls are easy to find, use and memorable which make a nice change from some of the new toys on the market trying to be a little too clever. The device is very easy to clean which is important to me and can also be dried fast.  The toy is small and can be packed away in a shoulder bag with taking up much room so ideal for travel or taking to a restaurant for some fun during courses!

The Bad

I can’t say anything bad about the toy other than it is not a new concept and widely copied by many manufacturers today. Bestvibe has produced a good quality version that has the power to do the job and can last a longtime if looked after.  The remote control is more likely to fail first over time, however, the controls on the toy would allow you to use it without the remote.

Overall Thoughts?

The Mermaid retails at $39.99 at the time of this review, which is probably what you would expect to pay for a multifunctional remote toy. It is ergonomical well constructed in terms of having vibrations delivered to approximately the right areas, which of course differ slightly for each person. If you’re looking for a gift for couples to play around with then this is an ideal toy. Lots of power, easy to use and pretty quiet too for discrete use.
